Meat Inspector

You will be responsible for ensuring all incoming and outgoing meat products meet food safety, quality, and regulatory standards. This role works closely with FSQA, Production, and USDA Inspectors to maintain compliance, perform inspections, and drive corrective actions across the facility.
This includes inspecting product condition, packaging, labeling, and microbiological compliance while maintaining detailed records and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Duties:
- Inspect incoming, in-process, and outbound meat products for quality and safety
- Accept or reject shipments based on USDA, customer, and internal standards
- Perform temperature checks, sensory evaluations, and product inspections
- Verify labeling, weights, lot numbers, and packaging compliance
- Conduct microbiological sampling and track results (E. coli, Salmonella)
- Perform yield testing and report findings to internal teams
- Maintain product evaluation reports, inspection records, and documentation
- Investigate quality issues and report deviations to management
- Support corrective actions with QA, Production, and Procurement teams
- Track trends and recommend improvements based on data analysis
- Inspect returned products and manage documentation and reporting
- Perform QA duties on the production floor including metal detection and hold/release
- Ensure compliance with GMP, HACCP, SQF, and USDA regulations
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
Qualifications:
- 1+ year of food safety or meat inspection experience
- Knowledge of meat processing and cuts of meat preferred
- Understanding of USDA regulations and food safety standards
- Experience with GMP, HACCP, SQF, or GFSI programs
- Strong attention to detail and decision-making ability
- Ability to document, analyze, and report findings accurately
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and QA systems
- Food Safety Inspection Certification or willingness to obtain
