We are working with an established food manufacturing company based in Harrisonburg, VA. They are recruiting a Health and Safety Coordinator to join their team on 2nd shift in return for a salary in the region of $60,000 – $62,000 plus a $100 per week shift differential (approximately $5,000 annually), along with excellent employment benefits.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Implement and maintain all Safety and Health programs across the facility
- Maintain open lines of communication with the VP of EHS regarding safety initiatives and concerns
- Assist in the investigation of near misses, first aid cases and OSHA recordable incidents
- Keep the management team informed of safety and health related issues identified within the plant
- Spend time on the production floor to ensure safety standards are maintained and employees are supported
- Provide training support and ensure all required monthly safety training is completed on schedule
- Conduct daily plant safety inspections to identify and correct potential hazards
- Work closely with Occupational Health staff to build a collaborative safety and medical support environment
- Assist with reviewing and approving safety designs for new or modified equipment before implementation
Qualifications & Experience required:
- 5+ years of Safety experience within the food manufacturing industry preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering or related field preferred
- Directly related experience may be considered in place of a degree
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with safety documentation systems
- Bilingual in Spanish and English required
- Ability to work flexible days and hours when needed
Preferred additional experience:
- Experience supporting both manufacturing and corporate teams in a safety leadership role
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification for General Industry preferred
